VERGE3 is the The Garage's third annual summer workshop and performance series. Improvisation / Composition Workshop with Kara Davis (Project Agora)
$45 per day / early registration $55 per day / walk up rate * The workshop is limited to 12 attendees per day. Email or call Kara Davis to secure your space: projectagora.kcd@gmail.com / (415)-509-2124 This workshop is open to dancers and musicians interested in exploring various improvisation modalities in order to enhance collaboration, connection, and understanding. Exercises given are applicable and interchangeable to both genres of expression. Each day will begin with a shared hour-long guided improvisation warm up. Dancers and musicians will respond to various prompts intended to heighten their states of observation, disrupt habitual tendencies to allow new creativity to emerge, and to more deeply connect with one another as artistic collaborators mutually shaping time and space. Afterwards, participants will engage in various structured improvisation exercises designed to enhance compositional awareness and deepen receptivity to one another. Participants who attend all four days are of the workshop areinvited to perform an improvisation at The Garage on Thursday, August 23, 8 pm. |

COLLABORATION & CREATION with Phoebe Osborn (US) / Joana Serra (Spain) / Ursa Sekirnik (Slovenia) / Andrea Vicente (Spain) This workshop introduces methods of collaborative creation that have been developed by artists Ursa Sekirnik (Slovenia), Joana Serra (Spain), Andrea Vicente (Spain), and Phoebe Osborne (USA/Spain). These female artists have developed ways of practicing collaboration as the cornerstone approach to their improvisation, choreography, and performance. The workshop introduces their methods of creative process and facilitates dialogue about non-hierarchical collaborative creation. |
