The Heart of the Matter: Having Choice Intermediate/ Advanced. An examination of the choices we make in Contact Improvisational dancing: technically, relationally, emotionally and creatively. Beginning with the understanding that until we can see/feel the present moment we have no choice at all, we will build our technical abilities to become consciously aware in milli-seconds of time. We will further our physical and creative freedom by locating the subtle and not so subtle choices we make, noting the consequences and our preferences in relation to ourselves, to each other, to the earth, and to space and time. With skillful choice making our technical expertise can excel, our performance can become more real and vital, and our creative range can explode in dances where awareness is power. This workshop will include an opportunity to perform on March 19.

Wed 17 march 6-8pm Paul Laurey $20
Dancing on the Edges and from the Center. Partnered improvisational dancing especially heightens and articulates sensing and action in coordination with partners. How can we maximize this interconnectivity while retaining a strong ground in our own center? Investigate and practice forms that ensure safety and stability in your body and provide a substantive dance offering to your partners.

Wed 17 march 8-10pm $20
Fri 19 march 2-6pm $40
both $50 - Christine Cali (festival curator)
Presence: Perception: Performance. Investigating the 'functional and sensational', preparing the dancer for deeply engaged and revelatory performances. The research will dig into deeper layers of body and consciousness through energy cultivation, improvisation, witnessing and being seen. The class will question how we can channel our creativity and become more present/available NOW.

Thu 18 march 6-8pm $20
Folawole Oyinlola is an international artist and director inspired by intuition, logic and spirit. Yoruba translation of his name: Enter with presence and gift. For more information please visit Folawole.org or Facebook.

Floor It. Get down with yo bad-ass self! Learn fun and efficient techniques for falling and flying low to the ground. Drawing on free-form acrobatics and the Axis Syllabus to discover a more dynamic and graceful relationship with gravity. 3 hours of technique training and play, 1 hour of creation for an improv score to be performed that night!

Fri 19 march 6-8pm $30 Vitali Kononov & Rosemary Hannon. Touch in Performance. Touch as an expression tool in performance.Expand your expressive performance palette by investigating the full spectrum of touch vocabulary. Join us for this workshop to explore the richness of tactile composition in performance. Contact improvisation skills are a plus, but not required. Contact improvisers use touch in performance extensively. It is a foundation of contact technique and becomes almost invisible as a part of human interaction pallet. Are we aware of the meaning that is innate to touch? Are we using the diversity of meaning that is available? Do we assign meaning automatically? Do we assume there is no meaning, because it is a technique? What does audience see?

Sat 20 march 10-1pm $30 Andrew Ward & Sebastian Grubb. Fly Together. Intermediate and Advanced Focusing on acrobatic partnering as applied to contemporary dance and contact improv. Take advantage of more opportunities for sustained flight and softer falling, utilizing each other as springboards and safety nets.

Sat-Sun 20-21 March 2-6pm $85 paige starliing sorvillo / blindsight
Tastes like Sugar :: improvisation and image-sourcing. An associative sense-sourcing/image-sourcing practice to cultivate your synesthetic awareness in improvisation and composition. Extending our perceptions of touch, taste, sound, sight, and smell into associative and imaginal territories to create image — body, event, and atmosphere — we hear red, smell the temperature of dawn and hold in our hands the sound of time passing. The workshop will be a generative process towards a student performance on March 21.
